National Erasmus Games is a nationwide project by Erasmus Student Network that gives international students across Poland the opportunity to take part in sports competitions, modelled after the Olympic Games.
Structure of the Competition
The project consists of three stages: local, national, and international. At each stage, participants compete in three disciplines: futsal, basketball, and volleyball. Each ESN section can field at least one 12-member team, which must include a minimum of three female players.
The first stage takes place at the local level, with teams competing within their respective cities and regions. The winning teams then advance to the national finals, hosted by one of the ESN local sections. The final tournament lasts for two days, culminating in the announcement of the winning team, which qualifies for the third stage of the project. This team represents ESN Poland at the International Erasmus Games (IEG), held in a different European city each year.
History of the Project
The origins of this initiative can be traced back to various local sports events. The first major inter-university tournament took place in 2009 in Warsaw, as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Erasmus Student Network.
